Epoxy flooring: the real pros and cons

We install epoxy every day, and we'll still tell you: it isn't perfect for every space. Here's the honest list — pros, cons, and how a professional install eliminates most of the cons entirely.

The pros

Seamless and non-porous (spills wipe up, no grout lines), extremely durable under traffic and vehicles, chemical- and stain-resistant, endless colors and finishes from showroom metallic to slip-resistant flake, and one of the lowest costs per year of any hard floor.

The cons — and the fixes

Slippery when wet? Only smooth finishes — we add anti-slip texture to any wet area. Yellowing in sun? Only raw epoxy — our UV-stable polyaspartic top coats don't amber. Peeling and hot-tire pickup? Those are installation failures, not material failures — diamond grinding and moisture testing prevent them. Install odor? Modern 100%-solids products are low-odor, and spaces are ventilated during cure.

The honest bottom line

The material's remaining true limitations: it needs sound concrete underneath, and structural slab problems must be repaired first. A pro will assess that before quoting — we do it on every estimate, free.

FAQ

Sensitivity to bad installation. Most 'epoxy problems' people read about — peeling, yellowing, hot-tire marks — are prep and product failures, avoidable with proper grinding, moisture testing and UV-stable top coats.
